Backstory

Trading memorabilia can be traced back to the 19th century. In the 1950s, trading sports memorabilia took off when baseball cards were first popularized. Since then, collectors have been buying and selling memorabilia to celebrate and preserve memories of their favorite teams/celebrities, as status symbols, and as investments.

IRL wanted to take real-life memorabilia and attach it to the blockchain in the form of a non-fungible token (NFT) to be easily traded.

The Opportunity

Utilize Web3 and build an app powered by blockchain technology to take an object that exists in the real world and make a record of it and its data transactions on the blockchain, creating an NFT.

The Big Deal

An NFT is a unique digital token that is stored on a blockchain, and it can represent ownership of anything from art to sports cards. Records cannot be manipulated, reducing fraud. This provides collectors with an unprecedented level of authenticity and security, as they can be sure that their prized possessions are truly one-of-a-kind and no one else can possess them.

Call Outs

Able to print a 3D acrylic cube representation of the object with a scannable tag that connects to all its data on the blockchain. The 3D object can be traded and have its new owners updated on the blockchain or print an updated version.

Opportunity to visualize the location of where some of the NFTs occurred. For example, the golf ball of a winning putt can be mapped to coordinates showing exactly where the event happened.

The Plan

After researching the NFT industry and confirming the client’s vision, InMotion Software created a product plan for a mobile app that used distributed ledger technology (DLT) to record all the provenance attached to an object.

Then our design team created a high-fidelity interface where users can look up the history of an object, its location, what it has previously traded for, and its current value.

The Outcome

A clickable prototype of the app was created based on the product plan and delivered to the client. The application can be extended to other industries aside from sports memorabilia.
