When They Ask, “What’s for Dinner?”
BackstoryOne of the nation's largest independently owned food retailers with over 420 stores, 145,000 employees, and annual sales of $34 billion wanted to conceptualize a mobile app that combined food delivery and meal kits for its customers.
The OpportunityCreate a unique and convenient experience for users to have an easy way to cook fresh meals without worrying about the time or effort of grocery shopping and have those meals delivered directly to their doorstep.
The Big DealAccelerated delivery: Presented a quality MVP (minimal viable product) within 8 weeks through extensive and rapid user testing & research.
The PlanOn a Wednesday, our stakeholder presented us with their idea. To understand customer motivations, frustrations, and values when using similar apps, we distributed a survey to 250 people.
We began a one-week Practical Design Sprint the following Monday, resulting in 10 rounds of user testing on two high-fidelity prototypes. We assigned a cross-functional team to conduct weekly user testing.
The OutcomeWithin 8 weeks, we delivered client-approved and customer-validated designs in the form of an MVP. It could filter the stakeholder’s inventory, recommend recipes, suggest ingredients, and add them to a shopping cart for later delivery.
